Coach Chris from Madison Park Academy talks about being a great student athlete.
Quick tips on being a great Student Athlete:
Prioritize. You should go to practice when it is scheduled. But when you go home, schoolwork should be the most important thing.
Realize that you are still an athlete, and to do well, you must also practice on your own.
Eat healthy. Eat a good breakfast that contains foods from all the food groups so you have a good balance of vitamins. For snacks, you should avoid junk food, and instead snack on fruits and vegetables.
Do your homework. This goes back to your student half of the job. If you don't do your homework, your grades will suffer, you may get detention and miss practice, and if you miss practice because of detention, you will be punished.
Get 7-10 hours of sleep. Do not party every night. A couple Friday nights are OK, but don't overdo it.
Don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. This should go without saying.
Work harder than anyone on the practice field, and both on the field/court and in class, ask questions if you don't understand something.
